The Maniacs 77
The Maniacs are prematurely let loose for good behaviour at London's Windsor Castle pub tonight. It's early days for the band who are fronted by the big Alan Lee Shaw on vocals and guitar. Their brand of high action 77 punk rock won't get much recognition till later on in the year.
Malcolm McLaren utters some ransom demands!Meanwhile Malcolm McLaren manager of the Sex Pistols  begins secret negotiations with A&M Records as a queue of record label suitors - WEA, RCA and CBS wait patiently in the wings with their cheque books flapping. He woows A&M's Managing Director Derek Green with a 6 track demo of Pistols recordings including a couple of takes on Anarchy In The UK. Green takes the bait but not before checking it out with Jerry Moss back in LA.

"I was terribly excited. Having signed Rick Wakeman, Peter Frampton Supertramp, Humble Pie, I was right 8 times out of 9 or something like that. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. So I probably handled it with the i'll-get-back-to-you tactic, but i knew at that very moment i wanted the act badly, and in this business you rarely do" - Derek Green A&M
