release 'God Save The Queen'/ 'Did You Know Wrong' today their first for Virgin. It's rush released with the aim of having the 45 in the Top Ten in Jubilee week. It was immediately banned by the media TV, Radio and high street record shops like Woolworths and Boots. The initial 50,000 singles comes in a special Queen pic bag and has the largest advertising campaign Virgin has ever used. It's doubtful the track will receive any daytime radio play, but John Peel has aired the song on his Radio One. For the full review go here.

THE VIBRATORS have a new single out today their pop anthem "Baby Baby"and "Into The Future". It's their first for CBS Records on their imprint label Epic. They were signed to CBS last month after a short stint with RAK Records. Here's the not very impressed review...

VIBRATORS: Baby Baby (Epic).
Sounds like the Hendrix version of Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower" would've done if the Vanilla Fudge had gotten hold of it. A rather slender little pop song with studiedly naive and innocent vocals, embellished with neat drumming: it'll take more than this to get you up there with the Big Five, boys.

"There was a cursory introduction, then he ran out, plugged in and launched into his set without a word. In the context of The Clash and the Sex Pistols, it was remarkable to see one bloke achieve the same."

Eater - Thinkin Of The Usa' - (Dont Care collection)
personiffiers of punk's 'I wanna have a go' spirit and the only schoolkid quartet in the punk scene with a record to their name were still a fresh prospect. And with the combined age of just 61 and declaring Johnny Rotten to be "too old" during their first interview showed they had no morals. By the time their second single was released today they were losing that novelty value and gaining some respect. The 3-track EP called "Thinking Of The USA" / "Space Dreamin' & 'Michaels Monetary System." showed a new maturity in their sound. The 'a' side is a rowdy lOOmph Vortex style punk anthem with an equivocal Uncle Sam fixation: "Walter Lure comes from the USA! Richard Nixon comes from the USA! Gary Gilmore came from the USA!" while the flip has a psychedelic dreamscape talk over on Michaels Monetary System'.
"Journalists always ask stupid questions like, 'What does mummy think?', 'What about safety pins?', 'What's behind it?' Stupid. We just play for ourselves, to kids like ourselves. There's nothing behind it."
lan Woodcock, Eater 1977
